Amity Point
Amity Point is a small close knit township located on the north western point of North Stradbroke Island, Queensland, Australia in Redland Shire. The last census recorded a population of only 436 people, a small number for a non-farming community.
Directly north is the Coral Sea and the southern tip of Moreton Island. To the east lies the small town of Point Lookout and to the south lies the main town of North Stradbroke Island, Dunwich. Wallum Creek snakes along the souther border of the town.
Dunwich
First stop off the ferry is Dunwich where you’ll find the information centre (in Junner Street). For anyone with a ghostly interest in the past, take a look at Dunwich cemetery. It is Queensland’s second oldest cemetery with graves dating from 1847 and it overlooks Moreton Bay.
Point Lookout
Point Lookout is a headland and small coastal village located on the eastern coast of North Stradbroke Island. To the north lies Cape Moreton and to the south the next major headland is Point Danger on the New South Wales/Queensland border. The other towns on the island are Dunwich and Amity Point.
The point was first sited by James Cook in 1770. Point Lookout is an excellent fishing spot, as is Jumpinpin Channel on the south of the island.
The area is mostly residential houses and tourist apartments built close to the beach and atop nearby ridges to take advantage of sweeping Pacific Ocean views. There are a few shops and a caravan park at Point Lookout.
