Whales can be viewed from several locations around Point Lookout.
The North Gorge Walk offers some excellent opportunities as do Norm’s Seat and Whale Rock. You will also find that some raised timber viewing decks have been built at the end of Timbin Road which enable whale watchers to see out over The Group rocks and Boat Rock offshore from Point Lookout.
The North Stradbroke hotel is another excellent vantage point at which to enjoy a relaxed day of whale spotting with the added benefit of food and drink on hand as well. The hotel stands on a rocky headland 35 metres above the sea which gives a viewing range of around 18 kilometres to the horizon.
The best times for spotting whales is from early June during their Northward migration right through to mid November when they journey Southward again on their more leisurely return to Antarctic waters.
